FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

You can find the answers to most of the usual questions we are asked down below. But if you don’t see it here, please don’t hesitate to email us at reallygoodtranscripts@gmail.com.

What’s the difference between a Robot or Professional caption or transcription?

The main differences between the Robot and Professional versions of our transcription and caption services are levels of readability. Professional transcripts and captions are 99% accurate, and are edited to delineate between different speakers, or interviewer and interviewee, as well as edited to correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and designate proper nouns (people, places, and things) wherever possible. Robot transcripts are unedited and do not include timestamps. Click here to see an example of each to view the difference between Professional and Robot transcripts.

Which one should I choose?

They’re both quality options, so choose the one that suits your needs! While Robot transcripts are delivered quickly, Professional transcripts and captions can save you time, as the timestamps and corrected grammar means you can move right into the task at hand. Additionally, when you offer your audiences captions that are 99% accurate, it shows you care about the experience of your hearing-impaired viewers.

Are timestamps included with transcripts?

All of our Professional transcripts include timestamps every 30-60 seconds or more, depending on the density of audio (that is, the more words there are per minute, the more timestamps included), and with each new speaker. On the other hand, Robot transcripts do not include timestamps or paragraph breaks. Click here to see an example of each to view the difference between Professional and Robot transcripts.

Are the transcripts edited for grammar, spelling, punctuation, proper nouns, etc.?

Our Professional transcripts are edited to delineate between different speakers, or interviewer and interviewee, as well as edited to correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and designate proper nouns (people, places, and things) wherever possible. Robot transcripts are unedited and do not include paragraph breaks. Click here to see an example of each to view the difference between Professional and Robot transcripts.

Does audio quality matter?

Absolutely! While we do our best to capture everything on your tape, good audio quality ensures a more accurate transcription. On Professional transcripts and captions, sections where the audio is unclear are designated [inaudible] or [indistinct]. On Robot transcripts, sections of unclear audio will be transcribed literally and phonetically, or omitted altogether. If much of your audio is unclear, we will contact you before transcribing, and make arrangements for a refund.

What kinds of media files do you accept?

We accept .doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt, .mp3, .mov, .m4a, .wav, .mp4, .srt and .vtt file formats. The maximum file upload size is 1 GB. If your media comes in the form of a link (to video or audio on Youtube, Vimeo, or some other site), please include the link on a text document in your upload.

What if my media isn’t a file, but lives at a web address, like Youtube or Vimeo?

No problem. Just send us the link via a text document with your upload.

In what file format will you deliver my completed file?

We will deliver your transcripts and captions in either .doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt, .srt or .vtt file formats, depending on the service.

When will I receive my completed transcript or caption?

We strive to turn around your file as soon as possible! Our turnaround time for robot transcriptions and captions is within 1 hour, depending on the length of the file. Professional transcriptions (with a length of 3 hours or less) will be delivered within 24 hours, and within 48 hours for longer files.

Where will my completed transcript or caption be delivered?

We will deliver your file to the email address you provided at checkout, so please be sure to double check that it is correct. If you do not receive your file after the designated time — approximately 1 hour for robot transcriptions, and captions, and 24 hours for professional transcriptions and captions — please reach out to us at reallygoodtranscripts@gmail.com. If you’re not sure and don’t want to wait, you can reach out just to check that we received everything you sent.

I already have captions or transcriptions, but I need them to be edited. What should I include in my upload?

Please upload both the transcribed document you’d like edited, ALONG WITH the original media file that it was transcribed from (or a link to it), for best accuracy. If you don’t have access to the original media content, we will edit the file for grammar, spelling and consistency.

I have a special request for my transcript. Is it possible and how can I let you know?

Sure! We get requests all the time for additional services, like using a particular nomenclature or spelling, or highlighting certain occurrences in the text, or rushing a particularly urgent file. We are happy to oblige these requests only on Professional services, for a small fee. When placing your order, include with your media upload a text document describing your special request! Please make sure to indicate your order number and/or name of your media file. We’ll respond with an invoice for the flat fee if it’s possible, or let you know immediately if it’s not!
